CANNOT WAIT FOR DEC. 23

The reason... My old program's vet's REUNION!!! As you all know by now, I've already moved on from my old life. But the thing is, I have a connection with my old family that I really am having a hard time cutting. It's just that they've been like my real family for more than 3 years of my life. I love my friends there. The next time you read a blog from me, most probably on Christmas Eve, I'll have pictures from the party.

Oh by the way, it's Christmas already!!! DArn. I'm not being cheap, but out of the 13 or 14 godchildren that I have, only 3 will receive a gift. One may receive a monetary present as well. That'd be my first godson. All the rest, are not in Manila. I'm sorry guys if I haven't been a good godfather, but it's really hard to be one specially if I don't see you regularly. But I always pray for you guys... if I could remember all of your names. JOke!!!

ENCHANTED VS THE GOLDEN COMPASS

2007 isn't really a very good year for me in terms of movie-watching. Normally, every week I see a good movie as long as there's a good one that's being released, but this year is different. It took me about 2 months to see another movie. It's either I had no time, money or date. I guess we'd also have to add the fact that there really aren't a lot of good movies that came out this year. A lot of average films and only a few outstanding movies... heck even Harry Potter wasn't that awe-inspiring.

Fortunately though, since this is the time where we got our 13th month pay, I had a little money to spend for my other love... cinema!!! The last couple of days I got to see the 2 films that have been highly recommended for me to watch. Enchanted and The Golden Compass.
Ever since the success of The Lord Of The Rings trilogy, fantasy films became very popular. A lot were disappointing, but there are a few that actually delivered. Now that film outfits are so keen on turning books into movies, so as not to be disappointed I decided to just skip the books and jump into the film immediately before deciding to read the book.
I am not going to compare the two as they are really different movies. One's light and the other's more epic. But both are equally amazing experiences to see.
ENCHANTED
This quirky tale of a fairy tale princess who was thrown into the real world is the type of film stressed out yuppies like me should be watching. It's funny, sweet (without the chickflicky sort of feeling) and satisfying to watch. It's a kid's movie but it's not the type where you'll be embarassed once you get spotted seeing in the cinema.
Giselle was about to be wed to Prince Edward, but unfortunately his stepmother (as per every other fairy tales) don't want her to be the next queen. So the queen pushed Giselle in a well that is actually a gateway to our realm. That's where she met Robert, a single father who stopped believing in fairy tales.
THE GOLDEN COMPASS
This is part one of a trilogy from a novel that I have never heard about. It's heavily controversial because people are saying that the film is actually anti-semitic (no idea what that means). I've seen it, and I really can't see how this contradicts our belief in God, or maybe I'm not really that smart to read between the lines.
It's about this girl Lyra who can read the signs on the Golden Compass (an item which reveals the truth) and her quest to save the children from the evil that is Mrs. Coulter and the Magisterium. I love this film because of the effects and the daemons and the polar bears and the witches and Nicole Kidman. And oh yeah, James Bond was actually in this film.
Both are good fantasy films.
Enchanted: 9/10
The Golden Compass: 8/10

BEST SONG LINES EVER!!!

I am the type of person who listens to music alot. And not just the tunes, I listen to the words more importantly. I love being hit in the gut by powerful lines add the cool voice of the singer. Here are some of the lines that I like.

YOU & ME
cuz it's you and me
and all of the people
with nothing to do, nothing to lose
and it's you and me
and all of the people
and I don't know why
I can't keep my eyes off of you
(wow, this song, particularly this line just perfect when you're alone with your loved one. Just staring at her face, just being with that person... you already feel complete)

YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL
there must be an angel with a smile on her face
when she thought up that i should be with you.
But it's time to face the truth
I will never be with you.
(I can so relate to this line... this is my song to the one who got away... or was never meant to be... how depressing)

SAMSON
You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first
(I don't really know what this means, but my interpretation is that the love was a mistake, but still its the best mistake... that happens, right?)

DREAMING WITH A BROKEN HEART
When you're dreaming with a broken heart
The waking up is the hardest part
You roll out of bed and down on your knees
and for a moment you can hardly breathe
wonderin' was she really here
Is she standing in my room
No she's not 'cause she's gone gone gone gone gone
(Ouch, that freakin' hurts. Makes you say just shoot me.)

TIME AFTER TIME (Tuck and Patti)
If you're lost you can look
and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you
I'll be waiting
Time after time
(It's specifically the Tuck and Patti version that I'm talking about, not anything else. The way it was sung... God! You know each word is meant when it was said)

SIGNAL FIRE
The perfect words never crossed my mind
Cause there was nothing in there but you
(That's how normal people feel when they're in front of the person they really like. THe best opening for any song.)

EASIER
It gets it gets easier without you
I won't feel right, I can't feel right
without you
but it gets, it gets easier.
(The song you should listen to when you need to move on. Everything heals with time... it gets easier)

BONDING MOMENTS

One of the things I never really expected to happen the day I stepped in the office of my previous company 4 years ago, was that I'll be meeting very good friends that will make my stay there worthwhile.

The thing with me is that after I leave something (ie high school, college or my previous job), the line of communications between myself and my friends there are cut. We lose touch, or worse friends become strangers.

That's what I am trying to avoid with the people that I met in my previous job. A lot of wonderful memories were created in my four year stay there and I am not ready to give it up at the moment. My former agents may tell me to move on. But how can you move on from something that made you really happy, right?

It's been awhile already, but I can now relate to everyone else who've left the account when they say how bonding in our program is something that's rare in the real world. AS they say, "we were really a family." That's true. When we moved to Marikina, what happened was that not only were we co-workers, we actually became neighbors, housemates and truly a family.

I know it's unfair for my new company that I'm judging it by the people that I'm working with. I am looking for the things that I found in my previous company and am unwilling to accept the culture that this company has. But the thing is, I don't want to invest alot of my emotions, loyalty or what have you, because this current job that I have is only a transition job. I don't intend to stay for a long time because there's another industry that I really want to work in.

In any case, the pictures you're looking at was taken yesterday during my colleague's birthday. Funny story, she (the birthday celebrant) was actually a little depressed earlier that day because she thought that there wouldn't really be alot of people who'll be celebrating her birthday with her. Boy was she wrong. Just goes to show that when you are well liked, no matter what obstacles, your friends will weather all of them to be with you. Happy birthday Shams.

I'm going to borrow a quote from my friends which is true with our little family, "it's not the beer that makes the gathering memorable, it's the company you're with."
